My goal for every meal is a lot of veggies and protein, some fruit and a little bit of healthy fats. when these are all consumed together it gets your metabolism into the optimal zone for calorie burn. This is some quick garlic sautéed kale, 3 hard boiled eggs, 1 mango, and half an avocado. Also, I always encourage big portions especially when starting to eat healthy. If it's all clean food it's ALL good. You want to make sure you are full, and not hungry an hour later.

Hair, makeup and fashion for the health conscious lady
Tags
Hair, makeup and fashion are all prevalent things in a woman's life! If you are like me, you live in the modern world and want to enjoy all the beauties... including our own beauty! But in the most healthy way possible! What is the point in consuming a tone of chemicals right? They will only age us, and destroy earth!
The Earth Diet is not just about what we eat, but what we put on our skin! Our skin is the largest organ and absorbs EVERYTHING, so it is very important that what we put on our skin we can also eat!
With that being said... what makeup are you using?
Where are you getting your hair done? What shampoo are you using? What chemicals are coloring your hair?
How many clothes do you purchase every year? Where do those clothes come from? What are they made from? Do you want to look incredible by consuming less resources and spending less money?
Hair, makeup and clothing can be an exciting experience to being a woman! I embrace all of it, but in the most healthy way possible. The result? My skin is better, I am slowing down my aging process, I am consuming less chemicals, my immune system is stronger, and I am still able to look vibrant and feel sexy!
I only work with people and companies that are earth friendly so you can always count on me to share these types of resources. I support the people who are behind healthier companies!
Here are three healthy alternatives for hair, makeup and clothing:
1. Makeup
Go for make up that is plant based, that does not test on animals (youtube animal testing if you don't know about it), and makeup that is chemical free. You do not want a lot of chemicals going into your skin - gross! I use Australian Made ADORN Cosmetics that is 100% natural, pure mineral and organic make-up. Since discovering ADORN at the end of 2011 I have not used anything else, so every photo and video you have seen of me I am wearing ADORN! I wore ADORN on Fox News. It looks very natural and feels very light on the face. Remember if you cannot eat your makeup do not eat it! The egyptians used charcoal for mascara (a recipe for mascara in my new book!) and mineral rocks for bronzer, and berries would stain their lips for color. ADORN is a more modern approach to what nature can provide us now to enhance our beauty. www.AdornCosmetics.com.au
I love that ADORN is getting recognized in mainstream media, CLEO says "Use ADORN for safe non toxic natural cosmetics!"
2. Hair
When in New York City I get my hair done at New York Hair Co! And I also use organic shampoo and conditioner on a regular basis. Coconut oil and olive oil are my hair treatments. And occasionally I wash with bentonite clay to add volume to my hair and give it a good cleanse. I go to New York Hair Co for my hair cut, styling and highlights as they use organic color and products. The owner Andrew Gould is also a vegan and has a personal commitment to the humane treatment of animals and and his belief in caring for the environment that has set the tone for the salon. The salon’s priority is to use and sell only cruelty-free hair care products (no animal testing). And whenever possible, the salon strives to be green by offering organic hair care products and color, as well as using green energy (wind and solar) and green cleaning products that are good for you and for the environment and using ceramic coffee cups in place of paper cups to cut down on paper waste." www.NYhairCo.com
3. Fashion
For Fox News (video here) I rented a dress from Rent The Runway! It totally fits in with my theme of consuming less resources, and not cluttering up my closet with outfits I may only wear once. With this company rent designer dresses for a special occasion and then return them! www.RentTheRunway.com
Have you seen the ocean lately? We consume all these products and then throw them out, and well Earth has a hard time breaking them down! Our rubbish goes somewhere. Using products like these healthier ones lessens our guilt, enhances our natural beauty, and well lets show some love to companies like these who are earth friendly and helping us be healthier!

Whole30 Recipe // Steak Carne Asada Tostada on a Cauliflower Tortilla
Tags
Cauliflower Tortilla Ingredients: ¾ a head of cauliflower riced or 2 cups riced and packed
2 eggs
salt and pepper to taste
Instructions: Preheat oven to 375 degrees and line a baking tray with parchment paper. For these I actually rice my cauliflower slightly more fine that cauliflower rice. Toss ¾ a head of cauliflower cut up and most of the stem removed and pulse until you get a texture slightly finer than rice. Once it's riced measure it to make sure you have 2 cups packed.
Place riced cauliflower in bowl and microwave for 2 minutes and stir, then another two minutes and stir again then place in a dish towel and squeeze excess water out as hard as you can. You're going to want to get out as much water as you can and be careful not to burn yourself because it's going to be very hot. Place drained cauliflower back in bowl and add two eggs, salt and pepper and mix until well combined. As a note it will be a little bit runny but shouldn't be pure liquid.
Spread mixture onto a baking sheet into 6 small fairly flat circles. Place in the oven for 10 minutes then pull out of the oven and carefully peel them off the parchment and flip them and place back in the oven for 5-7 more minutes.
Once they're done place them on a wire rack to cool slightly. Heat a medium sized pan over medium heat and place the tortillas into the pan pressing down slightly and brown them to your liking. Don't skip this step because it gives them slightly crispy on the edges and gives them a wonderfully nutty taste. (Recipe from Slim Palate with slight modifications and tips).
Top with lettuce, steak, pico and guacamole.
My experience on Fox News!
Tags
Being on Fox News was a highlight from all the work I have done in the past 5 years!
Dr. Robert Scott Bell was the one who introduced me to the producers of "A Healthy You" hosted by Carol Alt on Fox News. They were curious about this new 'diet' hitting the market - what we know as The Earth Diet!
I met Robert Scott Bell on a radio interview in 2011. Robert healed himself of many health conditions, as a lot of us did that now dedicate our lives to the health industry. He is a radio host on Natural News Radio and has interviewed me many times in the past few years. In fact the very first time I announced my new book would be published by Hay House, I went on his show and started the 365 day countdown! Today is 244 days to the book launch! You can listen to the archives here anytime: www.NaturalNewsRadio.com
Robert went on Fox News in January 2014, to talk about natural alternatives to healing allergies - for good. After his segment, Robert asked me and another powerful health advocate Ty Bollinger (Cancer Does Not Have To Be A Death Sentence), "Can you believe that just happened?"...."No!" I said laughing. It is such a dream come true to see alternative health become more popular in mainstream! We have all been called 'Quacks' before in the media - with some making fun of us that 'you can't heal cancer with food and the mind'....well actually yes you can - and now more people are believing it as more are experiencing it! We cannot deny the results.
Carol Alt who is the host of "A Healthy You" on Fox News is so determined to share health because she herself healed health conditions by eating majority raw foods that provide our body with so much nutrition! She also overcame body image issues and now says "At the age of 52, I'm in the best shape of my life, and I'm healthier than ever."
Fox News has over 5 million likes on facebook! And millions of people tune into Fox News in USA everyday.
If you missed my segment you can watch the video online here:
http://foxnewsinsider.com/2014/02/22/trade-processed-snacks-these-earth-diet-alternatives
When the producers invited me on Fox News I was excited and also nervous! This would be my first tv appearance to a larger crowd. Last year I was on Better TV making 3-ingredient chocolate balls which had a smaller audience. Available to watch here: http://www.wfsb.com/story/22956365/karas-cure-the-earth-diet
I pitched a few ideas to Fox News about what we could do with my segment. They loved the idea of 'Natures Candy'. My mission is to bring the message of health to the world, and my job is to teach people how to live a natural lifestyle. The Earth Diet book is a way we can all access the health we want. In my new book I have fit in everything I possibly could from what I have learned over the past 5 years, the most common questions I get and the most popular recipes. One hot topic with people is always how can I get off junk foods and eat healthier foods... 'it would be so much easier if I did not crave junk foods!'
So on Fox News I had 6 minutes to show some of "Natures Candy". The idea is that if we can find alternatives to our favorite junk foods, and have them also provide us with nutrition, then we have it all! I was addicted to junk foods for 5 years before getting my major wake up call when a tumor popped in my throat! Finding these healthy alternatives has literally saved my life! Now I don't feel like I am depriving myself, or missing out on eating chips, soda, candy or cookies! I still get to enjoy them and this is how:
1. Kale Chips replaces Doritos (Nutrition vs Toxic)
2. Kombucha replaces Soda (Nutrition vs Deadly)
4. Raw Cookie Dough replaces Cookies (Processed. refined sugar, dairy, soy, gluten)

It takes a team to create a health revolution on the planet. We know we are living in a health revolution when we see more companies coming out with healthy products. We also know it because health is becoming easier and more accessible to us all! When I first started The Earth Diet there were barely any health foods available in convenience stores, and certainly not many organic skin care and hair care products. I eat what nature provides. I also use nature in my home and on my skin!
I want to acknowledge the people who helped make up my appearance for FOX. If you have been reading my blogs since 2009 you will know that I believe we must be able to eat what we put on our skin - as our skin is the largest organ of the body and absorbs everything! So with that in mind, I get my hair done at the NY Hair Co on Amsterdam (Upper West Side). I choose this salon because they use animal cruelty free products and the owner Andrew Gould himself is a vegan. They also use organic dyes. I support any company who are making changes to a more natural and sustainable practice. I have been going to them for over a year now and I am very happy I have found a hair salon with the same philosophy of a healthier earth. "It is our owner Andrew Gould’s personal commitment to the humane treatment of animals and his belief in caring for the environment that has set the tone for the salon. The salon’s priority is to use and sell only cruelty-free hair care products (no animal testing). And whenever possible, the salon strives to be green by offering organic hair care products and color, as well as using green energy (wind and solar) and green cleaning products that are good for you and for the environment and using ceramic coffee cups in place of paper cups to cut down on paper waste." Yes Yes Yes we are witnessing a health revolution! NY Hair Co did a great job at making my hair look vibrant and healthy for FOX!
I like to wear as little make up as possible, as I prefer to have a natural look. I found ADORN Cosmetics in 2011 and have been using them ever since. I spoke with Briony the founder, who has created an entire line of gorgeous make up that we can literally eat! It is all plant based, vegan, animal cruelty free! I am not even a vegan myself (however 70% of my diet is raw and vegan), I pick and choose where to consume animals, and having them on my face is not what I want. A lot of cosmetics are tested on animals, it is really cruel, if you want to be turned off it forever just youtube testing on animals. ADORN's line is designed to enhance our already beautiful features, with less chemicals. Every photo you have seen of me since 2011 I am wearing ADORN! It is available at www.AdornCosmetics.com.au
Last year as I started to get booked for more events and interviews, at first I was buying new dresses and outfits. Then I realized I do not want to fill my closest with more and more clothing, especially if I was to only wear an outfit once, and that to fit into my sustainable philosophy I would rather have dresses lent to me, and am happy to wear them and then give them back. So I found a company called "Rent The Runway" who borrow out dresses for an event and then you ship them back. They were so great to work with, and they have so many beautiful dresses available on their site, and we get to rent them for less of a price than buying them, and then simply return them! This is totally awesome for the earth friendly lady who wants to consume less. Because when we buy clothing we are using some of earths resources. Did you know that when we buy an iPhone, a chunk the size of a car is carved out of the earth! So we must be mindful of the resources we are using!
I am also so grateful that my friend and very talented photographer Roxxe (Roxxe NYC Photography) was able to join me that day and capture some of the moments. And thank you Jean Weiss for your support. I could not do this alone! And it is because of you reading this, that is helping the earth shift to a healthier space.
At the end of filming, I gave the producers and Carol at Fox a gift bag, I absolutely love giving gifts of health and if someone gave me 1 million dollars to just give out gifts to the world - I would love that haha! I gave them a lemon shot from Organic Avenue, some chocolate from the Raw Chocolate Man, and some Phresh Greens.
I am so happy to be able to go on TV and share the message of alternative health to a lot of people. From working in this industry for the past 5 years I have noticed radical change and people moving toward healthier options. It is a dream come true. I do believe as a human race we are working together to create a better earth, a more sustainable earth and a healthy earth where food, happiness and money is balanced among all.
After Fox News I went to one of my favorite places to dine for raw organic food - Pure Food and Wine!
If you are like I was - addicted to junk foods- and you want to get off them - remember to find a healthier alternative! If you can eat your favorite foods while they also provide you with nutrition - then you have it all! My recipe has hundreds of free recipes for you to print and download!

How I come up with my recipes!
Tags
Hi friends!
I have been asked how I can come up with so many recipes! To date I have made hundreds of original recipes that I share on The Earth Diet website! Honestly, it comes naturally for me. Remember that my mother is a gardener and my father a chef, so I have those genes which sure are helpful! I basically make up recipes for whatever foods and drinks I am craving! I just use the cleanest ingredients possible to make up the recipe.
I have thousands more ideas, and it's just a matter of time when I can make them! This is one reason I started sharing one brand new recipe everyday on the website as the "Daily Recipe" #DailyRecipe So that in a few years there will literally be a library of recipes on the website for you too choose from.
My recipes certainly have improved. Years ago critics said my recipes were not formulated properly, as I would just make something and then tell you to 'add this and that' without giving proper measurements! Now my recipes are so organized and well explained, and constantly improving. My total time also includes preparation. Most of my recipes are made under 30 minutes, and a lot of them under 10 minutes. Most of my recipes are ridiculously simple!
Last year, according to Facebook alone my recipes got over 126,000 shares! On Sunday I posted a new recipe that I was really excited about, I dreamt about this recipe, and then I drew it on paper...
And then I made it! I shared it to facebook and I knew that people would love it, some recipes are hits and some just aren't. This recipe got over 5,000 shares in 48 hours!
You can get the recipe at this link: http://www.theearthdiet.org/25/post/2014/02/raw-strawberry-cashew-cheesecake.html
A recipe has star qualities if:
1. It is completely natural - using whole ingredients
2. Is dairy free, soy free, refined sugar free, chemical free, preservative free
3. Is lush and delicious, as well as providing the body with nutrition!
4. Can aid weight loss or help maintain excellent health
5. Made in 30 minutes or less and extremely simple
So that is how I come up with my recipes! My body has a craving for something, or I get a light bulb idea, I often draw them, then I get the ingredients and make them.
From everything I have done in my life, the thing I am most proud about myself are my recipes. My recipes have not only saved my life, helped me heal a tumor the size of a golf ball and also break my addiction to binge eating on junk food, but have also helped thousands of other people around the world! It is great that we are living in an age where we can enjoy our favorite foods while they also provide us with nutrition.
Here is my next design that I will make this week:
I would really love to see your recipes too! If you have a recipe you want to show off and share with the world email them to me at info@theearthdiet.org It is all about working together as a team and sharing health! #ShareHealth

Did you know not all wine is vegan?
Tags
I was so surprised to find out that not all wine is vegan (or vegetarian)!!! I figured since wine is grapes that surely no animals are used in the making of wine! WRONG! I was dining one night at Pure Food and Wine (One of my favorite plant based restaurants to eat in NYC!) and I was looking at the selection of organic wines, and some had a "V" next to them meaning Vegan and others didn't. I asked Joey the Beverage Director "Isn't all wine vegan?" He answered "Noooo." Wow whatttttt and I figured a lot of others did not this. When I was younger my father who is an earth man through and through showed me how he made wine on his acreage, and it in no way included using any animals. He even crushed the grapes with feet - talk about whole and natural!
If you weren't already aware of wine using animal products I am sure you will find it just as fascinating and also want to know what you are consuming! So here is how animals are used in the process of making wine:

"The reason that all wines are not vegan or even vegetarian-friendly has to do with how the wine is clarified and a process called ‘fining’. All young wines are hazy and contain tiny molecules such as proteins, tartrates, tannins and phenolics. These are all natural, and in no way harmful. However, we wine-drinkers like our wines to be clear and bright.
So thank goodness for "A New Direction"
Here is a brand I like as it has all 3 qualities: Orleans Hill
1. Vegan
2. Organic
3. No sulfates
You could buy online: vintnersalliance.com/Vegan-Wines
Here are some stores that stock vegan wines:
In New York Appellation Wines in Manhattan and The Natural Wine Company in Brooklyn, where knowledgeable staff were readily able to suggest many vegan-friendly wines.
Examples include ‘Jenny & François Selections' and 'Louis Dressner Selections'.
Recommended brands:

Most wines, if left long enough, will self-stabilize and self-fine. However, traditionally producers have used a variety of aids called ‘fining agents’ to help the process along. Fining agents help precipitate out these haze-inducing molecules. Essentially, the fining agent acts like a magnet – attracting the molecules around it. They coagulate around the fining agent, creating fewer but larger particles, which can then be more easily removed.
Traditionally the most commonly used fining agents were casein (a milk protein) ,albumin (egg whites), gelatin (animal protein) and isinglass (fish bladder protein). These fining agents are known as processing aids. They are not additives to the wine, as they are precipitated out along with the haze molecules."
Gross, gross, gross, gross! I prefer not to consume casein, gelatin and especially isinglass!

I also found this on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetarianism_and_wine
"Bull's blood is also used in someMediterranean countries but is not allowed in the U.S. or Europe"
"Bull's blood is also used in someMediterranean countries but is not allowed in the U.S. or Europe"
"Fining with casein and albumin is usually acceptable by most vegetarians but all four are off limits for vegans because tiny traces of the fining agent may be absorbed into the wine during the fining process."
Even though I am not a vegan, I pick and choose when to consume meat, and I prefer to live a majority plant based diet - as that really works for me - however when I am drinking wine I definitely prefer it to be vegan - that is one place where I think consuming animal products is unnecessary. So thank goodness for "A New Direction"
"...There is good news. Today many winemakers use clay-based fining agents such as bentonite clay, which are particularly efficient at fining out unwanted proteins.Activated charcoal is another vegan and vegetarian-friendly agent that is also used.
In addition, the move to more natural winemaking methods, allowing nature to take its course, means more vegan and vegetarian-friendly wines. An increasing number of wine producers around the globe are electing not to fine or filter their wines, leaving them to self-clarify and self-stabilize. Such wines usually mention on the label ‘not fined and/or not filtered’.
Apart from mentioning whether it has been fined or filtered, wine labels typically do not indicate whether the wine is suitable for vegans or vegetarians, or what fining agents were used. There has been much lobbying to change the US wine labeling laws to include ingredient listing. But so far it is not compulsory. "
It can be challenging to find a wine that is vegan as well as organic as well as not containing sulfates but they are out there in the market. You can always order online, and even ask your local liquor store to order them in.Here is a brand I like as it has all 3 qualities: Orleans Hill
