Whole30 Tip // Healthy Fats and Oils

On Whole30 we try to use healthy fat in every meal. mostly in cooking with avocado oil, coconut oil, olive oil etc.- today I am posting part 2 of worst nutrition advice in history. The myth that you should eat a low fat-high carb diet! Do you remember back in the day of the food pyramid? The bottom and biggest portion of the base of the pyramid was gluten! Bread, pasta, carbs, carbs, carbs! Shockingly, it was the official position of the government and health organizations around the world for DECADES! As we watched the advice dished out, obesity and type 2 diabetes skyrocketed. Here are SOME of the many problems with that. carbs raise blood sugar, this keeps people with diabetes dependent on meds to lower it for them. Low fat diets are a complete disaster for people with obesity and diabetes- they raise triglycerides and can cause heart disease. However, eating healthy fats help us feel full, keep our skin soft, deliver fat-soluble vitamins, and are a great source of energizing fuel. Its frustrating that the low fat diet is still being recommended by governments and organizations world wide when we know the low-fat fad is a FAILURE! source: The Top 5 Contenders for the Worst Nutritional Advice in History by Kris Gunnars

Whole30 Recipe // Sweet Potato Hash with Eggs Over Hard

NO WORDS for how ecstatic I am to be back in my kitchen after a weekend away. Sweet potato hash with bell peppers, spinach and onion sautéed - top with 2 eggs over hard. I've had lots of people ask about over hard eggs- I prefer this to scrambled, and I still have a hard time with yolk not cooked thoroughly so I just crack the egg in the pan over a little oil, then when they start to take shape I break up the yolk a little with a fork, the flip it right over - it cooks quickly and is so good!

Whole30 Tip // Eggs & Cholesterol

I recently read an article about the worst nutritional advice in history- I wanted to share some information about the notion that egg yolks were high in cholesterol, so you should toss them and only use egg whites- THIS IS NOT NECESSARY and here is why. Eggs are among the most nutritious foods on the planet - but yes, egg yolks are high in cholesterol- and people believed eating them would raise their cholesterol. I did too! So we started throwing away the yokes- problem is this is pretty much the worst thing you can do- the yolks contain almost ALL the nutrients. Here is the science- when 70% of people eat the whole eggs, there is no effect on their cholesterol- the other 30% DO see a raise in HDL cholesterol- BUT THIS IS GOOD CHOLESTEROL! This is not harmful.Thousand of studies have been done, and there has never been a single correlation found between heart disease and egg consumption. So lets remember eggs are loaded with protein, healthy fat, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Eggs are one of the best weight loss foods out there. They are cheap, easy to prep and delicious! So in a eggshell (badum-ching!) eggs WON'T raise bad cholesterol or cause heart disease- they are an amazing food so don't throw away the yolk- the most nutritious part of the egg! You are successful! No matter where you are with your health!

I can relate to that anxious feeling of just wanting to 'arrive' at the perfect health. Whether that is 'I will be happier when I succeed in healing this or that, or losing weight.' It is very important that we feel health NOW even though we know we can get healthier. Feeling the health now accelerates the healing.

Affirmations to think over and over again, especially if sick thinking thoughts happen, is:

"The moment to heal is now."

"I am healthy now, I am healthy now, I am healthy now."

"I am getting healthier in every way every day."

"I can feel the health that is available to me now."

"I am doing all the right things I need to do everyday to improve my health."

"Even though I have not reached my goal yet, I am grateful and accept where my health is now."

I love this Eckhart Tolle quote he just posted about there is nothing more successful then THIS present moment!

Chlorophyll for blood transfusion

I have heard so much about chlorophyll being able to be a natural blood transfusion, so I did some research.

Firstly what is chlorophyll?
Chlorophyll (also chlorophyl) is a green pigment found incyanobacteria and the chloroplasts of algae and plants. People remember; green plants = chlorophyll.

What plants contain chlorophyll?

  • kale
  • spinach
  • parsley
  • spirulina
  • wheatgrass
  • barley
  • broccoli
  • chlorella
  • green beans
  • arugula
  • leeks

You can get chlorophyll by eating these plants, especially with slow chewing and absorbing their juices into your tongue and mouth. You can also juice these plants, or put them into a smoothie.

Chlorophyll offers a lot of benefits: It cleanses our blood and helps detoxify the liver, colon and entire digestive tract. It also accelerates weight loss, and can help to treat cancer, diabetes, bone disease, acne, psoriasis, eczema, and heart disease.

A recipe I have designed below incorporates chlorophyll with coconut water. Apparently, in WWII Coconut Water was used for blood transfusions in soldiers & saved many lives. According to Jo Ward, author of Raw Food Blog, she says her cousin Justin who is in the army, this still gets taught this to use as plasma!

According to Ravishing Raw, our blood exists of about 55% of plasma (about the same structure as coconut water) and 45% of hemoglobin (for the transportation of oxygen.) The hemoglobin is "essentially transformed plant blood", chlorophyll. Drinking a mixture of 55% Coconut Water & 45% Chlorophyll (plant blood) is said to be an instant blood transfusion! By drinking this concoction it can help re-build our blood. This is helpful to know when suffering from blood diseases/issues like my client Debbie.
You can get a 100% coconut water in many health food shops or could even buy a whole coconut and use the fresh coconut water which of course is better as it is more whole.
Drink this concoction to re-build your blood and treat your body to a natural blood transfusion. Drink this in the morning on a empty stomach if you want the full benefits of it and a quick absorption in the blood. But also "taking chlorophyll before or at meal-time greatly reduces the carcinogenic effects of food. Since it primarily acts as a blocking agent, it is able to block the absorption of the carcinogen by forming a molecular complex too large to be assimilated in the small intestine. In other words, to get the full anti-cancer benefits, eating a salad comprised of spinach, kale, parsley and other green-goodies before a well-done steak will help prevent the development of those cancer-causing compounds." So drink this concoction before eating meat or processed junk foods to help with digestion and to reduce carcinogenic effects.
Mike Adams from Natural News says that "modern medicine, of course, has utterly failed to recognize any use for chlorophyll whatsoever. But followers of raw living foods understand very well how important chlorophyll is to human health."

Here is a recipe I created for Chlorophyll and Coconut Water Blood Transfusion

Total time: 10 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients:
1 whole coconut (or 2 cups coconut water)
1/2 head of kale
1 cup spinach
1/2 cup parsley
1 tablespoon wheat grass
1/2 cup broccoli

Action:
1. If you have a whole coconut, bust a hole and pour the coconut water into a blender like the VITAMIX
2. Add the rest of the green ingredients. Blend for 2-3 minutes until you have a smoothie! Drink and enjoy the blood transfusion and other benefits!

One way that I get chlorophyll on a daily basis is from drinking Phresh Greens. It is an organic ready made greens powder that I mix with water. It is great for people on the go, just mix 1 teaspoon into a cup of water, and for a blood transfusion mix with coconut water! The ingredients include all of the greens: parsley, spirulina, wheat grass, oat grass, barley grass, alfalfa grass, spinach, collard greens, broccoli, kale and chlorella. This blog is thanks to my client Debbie, who I mentor, and has heart disease, diabetes and obesity and is determined to enjoy the rest of her life! She keeps track of her experience in a daily blog at www.EarthDietBlogs.com/DebbieSavesHerLife Doctors told her she may need a blood transfusion. This is what I am recommending for her to try, and then doctors can test for results.
